What's Happening?

  • On April 11th, Health Canada announced a consultation: Reducing Youth Access and Appeal of Vaping Products: Potential Regulatory Measures [1]
  • Health Canada has indicated that an unpublished study is a major reason for proposing stricter regulatory measures. As of today, there has been no peer-reviewed published version of this study. This study has not been made publicly available. [2]
  • Health Canada has stated they may look at e-liquid flavour restrictions. [2]
  • Electronic Cigarettes have already been shown to be at least 95% less harmful than tobacco and not a gateway to tobacco use in young people - conducted by a UK Government study. [3]
    Which summarizes:
    • "the current best estimate is that e-cigarettes are around 95% less harmful than smoking"
    • "nearly half the (UK) population (44.8%) don't realise e-cigarettes are much less harmful than smoking"
    • "there is no evidence so far that e-cigarettes are acting as a route into smoking for children or non-smokers"
